Transcript:
Sachiko: Hello, I’m Sachiko Flores and I am a representative for the CASLI Board of Managers.
Sean: I’m Sean Furman and I am the Testing Director for CASLI.
CASLI has been consistently busy with the releases of all of our exams within the past two years and working hard to maintain the exams and get through the beta periods for all exams.
Sachiko: The CASLI Team and the CASLI Board of Managers have been conducting internal assessments of our operation efficiency because we believe change is necessary for CASLI to continue to advance the quality of our examinations and strengthen the certification process. We came up with two outcomes:
– Increasing the rates for exam fees
– Reducing the numbers of tiers of exam rates
There have been no changes with exam rates for the past seven years, and this is the first time we are changing our exam rates since 2015. The increasing fees is are due to the increased rate of higher operating costs, increased staffing costs, and increased prices of needed materials.
Sean: Currently, there are 16 tiers of exam rates and it is complicated, confusing and difficult for candidates, the financial team, and our team to track. Consolidating the number of tiers will make it easier to follow and necessitate an update of the exam rate structure. The new 3 tiers structure of exam rate will be divided in the following categories:
– Regular exam rate
– Discounted member rate
– Rates for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
There will be no exam rate the first time and retake. The exam will now become a flat rate regardless if it’s the first time or retaking the exam. We will continue to provide discounted rates for current and active RID members.
Sachiko: There will be no change in the exam rates for Deaf candidates, because we recognize that Deaf candidates did not have access to a Performance exam for more than five years, which created barriers for Deaf interpreters. The CASLI team recognizes the challenges and barriers that Deaf and/or BIPOC individuals face in the interpreting profession and continue to explore equitable opportunities for marginalized communities. We are committed to seeking strategies with RID such as implementing scholarships to support the much needed growth in the number of Deaf and/or BIPOC interpreters. An announcement with more information regarding this effort will be forthcoming in the near future.
Sean: The new pricing and tier structure will go into effect on January 1, 2023. Click here for the new CASLI Exam Rates Structure which also can be found on CASLI’s website under Exam Registration Fees.
CASLI will continue to honor the current exam rates for those who submitted exam requests or purchase their exam(s) on CASLI Exam System prior to December 31, 2022.
Sachiko: We acknowledge that changes like these can be hard, and have impact on individuals as they pursue their certifications. As always, our central aim is to provide top quality communication access to Deaf communities and consumers.
Sean: If you have questions or concerns, please contact us anytime at Testing@casli.org or Info@casli.org We are here to support you on your journey in becoming a certified interpreter! Thank you!
Sachiko: Thank you for your support, your faith and partnership is truly appreciated.
